And So to Home

Full moon over the Craft Beer Festival, South West Rocks

We left Urunga and headed down to South West Rocks to stay at Steve and Andrea’s house where we waited for them to arrive with Ally and Ben and their furniture. We stayed until Sunday enjoying their company before heading south again, stopping at Gunning Freecamp for the night before resuming our travel down to Echuca to stay with Sharon and Paul for a couple of days.

We arrived home today after travelling 10500 kms through NSW and Queensland. A really enjoyable trip with new locations visited interspersed with family visits. The vehicle behaved itself well beyond expectations (we travelled from South West Rocks to Echuca topping up with a jerrycan of fuel on the way). So that’s it for another year.

Grafton to Urunga

Our camp at Grafton

We spent three nights at the Grafton Showgrounds. The area is still recovering from the floods with several houses in the main drag with obvious flood damage and the Showgrounds themselves were in poor condition because of the wet soils. We were able to walk to the street from there so it was a pleasant enough stay, just not a lot to do in the circumstances. There were quite a few long term tenants at the Showgrounds who had obviously seen better days. I’m not sure if it was flood related but you have to feel for them living in such precarious conditions.

Urunga at the junction of the Kalang and Bellinger Rivers

We moved south to Urunga to spend three nights here. Naturally, now we are somewhere nice, there is rain forecast for the next few days , so we decided we had better make hay while the sun shines and we headed out along the boardwalk to the river mouth. A nice walk of about a kilometre each way. We then headed up the street to do some grocery shopping (though I doubt we really needed to) and back to camp to prepare for the rains. We depart for South West Rocks on Sunday.
