The Field of Lights

We spent the day checking out the Olgas before returning to Yulara for dinner at the Gecko Cafe. We then caught the bus out to the Field of Lights art installation. A stunning display of 50,000 frosted glass long stemmed flowers illuminated by 380 kms of optic fibre that displayed changing colours throughout the field. Simps breathtaking in the mild desert night. We then drove back out to Curtin Springs for our last night there.

Uluru in All Its Glory

We had a fantastic day today. Debbie got to see the Rock in all its glory. It looked spectacular as we drove in as the morning sun highlighted the grooves and holes in it. We went into Yulara to fuel up and do a bit of shopping before heading out to the rock to do all the walks. It was a great day, and even though Bob, Jenny and I had  seen it all before it was still a fulfilling day. we stayed for the sunset before heading back out to Curtin Springs. Tomorrow we do the Light show

Its Curtains at Curtin Springs

We had discovered that we couldn’t get into the campground at Yulara (Uluru) so we decided to set up camp at Curtin Spring Station which is 101 kms from Uluru. We got into camp at around 1.00 pm so had a restful afternoon. The wind died down today so we had a great run into the Curtin Springs, back to our usual fuel economy. We intend heading into Uluru tomorrow so that Debbie gets her first taste of the Rock.

Stayed with Agnes

We drove through to Agnes Creek Rest Area where we set up camp among the gum trees. A really good camp with another fire. The wind has been painful, strong all day – using a lot more fuel. The joys of travel.

We’ve reached Coober Pedy

We’ve made it into Coober Pedy to make bookings ahead. We couldn’t get into Uluru so we will stay out at Curtain Springs and do the light show from there.

Everyone is fit and well and the vehicles are doing fine battling against the North Westerly winds

Horror at Hancock Lookout at Horrock’s Pass

Got into camp a bit later than anticipated and we copped a battering during the night with gale force winds. Bob and Debbie had to lower their pop-up roof because they thought they would be blown off the hill. Beautiful view though!

Hit the Road Jack

Made it to the Hattah North Rest Area today after catching up to the Williams at Calder Park Service Station. We ended up travelling just over six hundred kilometres for the day. Finished the night off nicely with a roaring fire and a few wines.

Nearly There

Only two days until we hit the road again – heading to the NT for an extensive look around Gulf of Carpentaria
